In the first months of the war, three young people – Rita, Vanya and Yashka – find themselves embroiled in a terrible crime: Rita’s parents are brutally murdered, Yashka becomes an unwitting accomplice to the murder, and Vanya becomes an accidental witness. All three end up in the same reconnaissance unit, which is preparing to deploy behind German lines as they advance on Moscow.
