Sunil Varma

Sunil Varma, known mononymously as Sunil, is an Indian actor who works predominantly in Telugu cinema alongside Tamil and Hindi films. Born on February 28, 1974, in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh, he trained in dance and martial arts before moving to Hyderabad in the late 1990s to pursue an acting career, initially enduring years of struggle alongside his close friend, filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas.

He made his breakthrough with K. Vijaya Bhaskar's *Nuvve Kavali* (2000) and quickly established himself as one of the most popular and bankable comedic actors in South Indian cinema throughout the 2000s. Known for his impeccable comic timing, spontaneous dialogue delivery, and energetic dance skills, he delivered memorable comedic performances in classic hits like *Nuvvu Nenu* (2001), *Nuvvu Naaku Nachav* (2001), *Manmadhudu* (2002), *Sontham* (2002), *Athadu* (2005), and *Dhee* (2007). He transitioned to leading roles with S. S. Rajamouli's acclaimed sports drama *Maryada Ramanna* (2010), followed by successful commercial outings such as *Poola Rangadu* (2012) and *Tadakha* (2013).

In the late 2010s and 2020s, Sunil reinvented his screen persona, earning widespread critical acclaim for portraying dark, menacing antagonist and pivotal character roles, most notably as Mangalam Srinu in the blockbuster franchise *Pushpa: The Rise* (2021) and *Pushpa 2: The Rule* (2024), as well as in Nelson Dilipkumar's Tamil blockbuster *Jailer* (2023). Over his career spanning more than 200 films, he has won three Nandi Awards (including Best Comedian and a Special Jury Award) and two Filmfare Awards South.
